I have said it for years and I will say it again: I would be the happiest gal in the world if the weather would somehow make winter two weeks long. We could have a gigantic blizzard that would cancel all my classes and we could build snowmen and have snowball fights and go sledding and do all the basic things there are to do during gigantic blizzards. And then it would be over and the weather would warm and leaves would return to the trees and the grass would be green and I'd get a little sweaty when walking to class (Okay very sweaty. Like I'll get pit stains and my hair's up and I don't even bother wearing makeup because I'd sweat it off. Nobody's perfect, least of all myself).
I feel like there's a huge underlying anticipation come every season. We're dreaming of denim and tall boots and fall hats by the end of summer, and we dream of big coats and huge scarves and pretty snow in late fall. For me, this anticipation is nothing compared to my impatience for warm weather by the time February hits. And I'm not talking the fourth week in February. When February 1st hits, I'm ready for sunshine and lazy days by the pool. My Pinterest feed becomes filled with really tan people surfing (like that's something I'd do in the summer), pretty summer clothes, swimming pools, sandy toes, and really attractive couples doing really attractive couple-y things (cue Jay Alvarrez and Alexis Ren looking really good in the least amount of clothing one can legally wear on Youtube and Instagram). So you can imagine my elation when a terrified groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil sat on a tree stump in front of a bunch of people without a shadow in sight. I swear a single tear of excitement fell from my eye at the thought of not having to wear a sweater, heavy jacket, giant scarf, and hat to class every day for much longer. Yes I know I live in Chattanooga, but my New Orleans native blood cannot handle walking across campus when it's only twenty degrees outside and windy. So far, the groundhog has proved correct. Whether this is a product of of climate change, some kind of supernatural power the groundhog possesses, or just sheer luck I don't know. What I do know is that Chattanooga is supposed to hit 70 degrees every day this week and I could not be happier, despite the fact that I have so much work to do that I probably won't be outside that much. Oh well, I'll take what I can get. Much Love,
